Christine Unckles, daughter of Gwen [Hamer] and John Nicholson, died May 25, 2021. Born September 25, 1948, Christine was seventy-two. Christine was born in Blackburn, England. With her family, Christine emigrated briefly to Canada, then to Rockford, Illinois, and finally settled in Edmonds, where she graduated from Meadowdale High School in 1966. After earning her teaching certificate in Elementary Education from Western Washington State College, Christine began her teaching career in the Snohomish School District, then began her forty-year career in Everett schools. After brief assignments at Lowell, Roosevelt, Garfield, and Silver Lake, she taught kindergarten and first grade at View Ridge Elementary for more than thirty years, where enduring friendships strengthened the community. Her principal legacy is in the hearts and minds of her students and of her children and grandchildren: her love of learning and kindness.

I'm so sorry to hear of Chris' passing. I have many good memories of our friendship at Meadowdale, but especially remember her smile.

Christine and I have been friends for over 60 years. I was fortunate to share many great memories with her, from elementary school on. She was a "sister from another mother " in the Pittis family. We have spent years hearing about each other's families, and laughing and crying.  I will miss her a great deal. She was a gentle loving  soul. I am sure she is singing with the angels.

Christie Nicholson was just a lovely person.  She was in many of my classes dating back to Jr. High, I think..  She was on the MHS Speech Team and she was my debate partner at several high school speech tournaments our sophmore year.  I remember her very foldly.  She was a very optimistic person.  I started to say she had a bubbly personality, but that is not quite right.  Exuberant maybe is a better word.  She was very intelligent, outgoing, and had an infectuous laugh with rosy, round cheeks.  I remember she also entered a lot of the solo speech competitions like extemporaneous and impromptu speech.  They were really hard to do, but she just jumped in with both feet and big laugh.  I think that is her in the April 1966 MHS film at 1:38 in art class, but I am not positive. I am not surprised that she became a beloved teacher.  Another great loss for our class.
