George Andrew Nelson passed away May 17, 2015 in Redmond, WA.

Born July 21, 1927, Sedro-Woolley, WA to Gust and Celia Nelson. He was the youngest of 3 children. George excelled at sports including basketball, football, and track and coached all of those sports plus volleyball at Meadowdale High School. George was also an expert bird hunter and trap shooter and never lost his touch with a shotgun.

After high school George enlisted in the navy and served on the destroyer USS Grand Canyon. Following his Navy service George married the love of his life, Nancy Nelson, to whom he was married one month short of 66 years and with whom he had 3 children.

George went to Western Washington College, becoming the first in his family to graduate from college. After gaining his teaching credentials, he taught at Sedro-Woolley high school and then took his family to Germany where he taught on the American base in Wurzburg.

On returning George became a teacher at Meadowdale High School and built an industrial arts shop that was one of the best on the West Coast. Many of his students would return to thank him for his uncompromising guidance during their high school years. After retirement he worked at Boeing as a machine planner before full retirement.

George is survived by his wife Nancy, sisters Elaine and Trudy, sons Craig and Michael, daughter Diane, and 5 grandchildren. At George's request there will be no funeral or memorial service. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Legion.
